Brixham has a number of
beaches including Breakwater Beach located near Brixham harbour, this
is a pebbly beach, ideal shallow paddling for the kids, going out
to deeper water for scuba diving. A beachside restaurant, which serves
A La Carte seafood amongst other dishes (open evenings too, great
views), and a beach cafe for takeaway snacks, etc. This is a popular
beach for diving activities. There is a decent sized car park right
by the beach. A favorite beach is at Sholestone - this is situated
just beyond breakwater beach. Here, you will find a terrific salt-water
outdoor swimming pool, right by the edge of the sea - and it's free.
Its supervised by lifeguards, and you can hire sun beds and deckchairs.
The beach is served by a refreshments kiosk with outdoor tables and
chairs. |

There are dozens of other beaches, small and large, outside
of Brixham at Goodrington, Paignton and Torquay all are within
an easy drive or can be accessed via the number 12-bus route.
In fine weather a ferry operates between Torquay, Paignton
and Brixham. Wherever you go in Brixham, there are reminders
of the old days. Walk around the narrow streets behind the
Tourist Office and see something of the area long ago, or
visit Brixham Heritage Museum to look at the tools used in
building the ships, models and pictures of them and a reconstruction
of a fisherman's cottage living room.
